This course presents an overview of goals, guiding principles, priorities and concrete steps to use in the pursuit of building green homes. Beginning with a discussion of context, this presentation provides a clear outline for an approach to use in both thought and action when building “green.”

Rachel Wagner is the owner of through design LLC in Duluth. She has a B.S. in Design and Environmental Analysis and is a licensed architect in Wisconsin. As a designer and architect, Rachel focused most of her career on energy conservation and sustainable design. Her work includes homes that meet the performance of zero net energy, Architecture 2030, and Passive House standards.

This course will address the Minnesota building code and energy code requirements along with prescriptive installation methods for exterior envelope cavity wall insulation of single-family homes.

Peter Kulczyk has three decades of experience in the construction and building codes industry as an author, educator and expert in residential building codes, energy codes and green building practices. He is certified by the International Code Council as a building inspector, plans examiner and green building-residential; by the State of MN as a certified building official and certified instructor; by the United States Green Building Council as a LEED AP Homes; and by the State of CA as a CALGreen inspector.

This course will discuss some of the issues with the current wall systems being constructed.  The course will give an overview for the reason behind adding insulation to the exterior and discuss some methods that are currently being used in the market.

Ross Anderson has worked in the building industry for more than 10 years as a builder project manager and is currently an energy efficiency consultant at The Energy Network World Wide. Previously, Ross worked at the Neighborhood Energy Connection, at Cocoon, at Residential Science Resources, and as owner of Advanced Energy Consulting.

The above courses are approved for a total of three hours of MN Contractor (includes Energy), MN Building Official and MN Realtor continuing education credits.
